1. DEATH BY CHOCOLATE… OR BY NOUGATINE CREAM
Two masterfully prepared confections await your pleasure. You and your friends may savor the decadent, chocolate ganache cake created by Phyllis Grant, current parent and former pastry chef who honed her skills at Bouley, Nobu, and Michael’s in New York. Author of soon-to-be-published food memoir, This Dinner Will Not Kill Them, Phyllis knows her way around an oven and will make you remember why you love chocolate!
Or, for loyal Chez Panisse fans, parent and current pastry chef at the world renowned restaurant, Eric Rocher’s concoction of individual layers of hazelnut and almond meringue, chocolate cognac and nougatine cream will make this Marjolaine a major celebration in your mouth.
Both cakes are featured on beautiful platters, lovingly hand-painted by the children of Ecole Bilingue and brought directly to your table for a sensational dessert. Enjoy the cake after dinner and take the platter home for years of delight!
2. A NIGHT OF LUXURY ON A SPLENDOROUS VINEYARD ESTATE
Gustafson Family Vineyards is the highest elevation estate vineyard and winery in Sonoma County. Surrounded by 20 acres of vineyard, you will have exclusive use of Gustafson’s Estate Residence, including the 36 x 18 ft. pool, inviting spa and beautiful gardens. The luxurious home sleeps 6 among three bedrooms, each with private baths, and offers access to the Vineyard’s picnic area, with breathtaking views of Lake Sonoma. The living room offers panoramic views of Dry Creek Valley with glorious sunrises above the valley fog, and the timeless architecture is a symphony of color with rich stone, stucco and glass.
As private guests, you will be rewarded with a behind-the-scenes look at the vineyard and winery and meet Winemaker and Vineyard Manager, Emmett Reed. You will also enjoy a private tasting of Gustafson Estate wines, and take home a complimentary bottle of their Gold Medal winning 2010 Estate Petite Sirah.
The Vineyards’ small team of dedicated staff will provide you with individual attention and unsurpassed hospitality. Enjoy all this property has to offer—including the rare chance to pluck and sample grapes fresh off the vine!
3. PRIVATE GREEK DINNER FOR 10 AT ACCLAIMED KOKKARI ESTIATORIO
With scores placing it in the “extraordinary to perfection” rating of the Zagat in every category, Kokkari delivers Greece on a platter like nobody else can. Sapphire blue skies, dome-shaped rooflines, lush hillsides and ancient landscapes—you taste it all in the sumptuous cuisine of San Francisco’s Kokkario Estiatorio. Spit-roasted lamb, spanakotiropita, grilled octopus, artichoke souvlaki, and yeaourti me meli—rich yogurt with spiced walnuts and dates drizzled with honey—are some of the wonders of this Mediterranean gem.
Your exclusive evening will take place in Kokkari’s Hania Room, completely separate from the main dining area. This private room has the feel of a wine cellar and features warm wood accents and rich tapestries. Each course of your meal will be accompanied by wine that has been masterfully chosen to enhance each dish to perfection.
Lauded as one of the best Greek restaurants in the country, this culinary landmark serves up food “fit for the gods”—and the President! Kokkari was invited to the White House last month to join an elite chef’s team to serve President Obama and a private audience in honor of Greek Independence Day. With credentials like that, Kokkari is sure to deliver an extraordinary night to remember!
4. ONCE IN A LIFETIME TOUR TO THE TOP OF A CRANE
You’ve seen them countless times and have probably marveled at their enormity: the massive icons of the Port of Oakland, the giant cranes that inspired the “AT-AT Walkers” in George Lucas’ Star Wars. Aside from their peculiar resemblance to gargantuan geometric animals, the bayside cranes play a central role in the operations of the port: loading and unloading containerized cargo making its way to and from distant lands, and earning the port its reputation as the fifth busiest in the nation.
Strap on your hardhat and safety vest and get ready for a once in a lifetime opportunity: ascending the crane! You and up to five guests will get the ultimate VIP treatment—private tour, elevator access, coffee with the manager, photos from 12 stories high—as you go where few have gone before. You’ll experience what it feels like to drive out in the crane, check out the engines and machine house, and see where the operator sits. To add to your new bragging rights, enjoy the San Francisco skyline from a vantage point few will ever witness. This tour is not offered to the public and is a must-do adventure!
5. PARIS APARTMENT GETAWAY
In the immortal words of Audrey Hepburn, “Paris is always a good idea.” Stay for one full week in a beautifully appointed, Haussmannian apartment in the 8th arrondissment. With views leading both to the street and to a garden courtyard—so quiet you can hear the birds singing—you’ll have the best of both worlds. During your stay in the heart of the prestigious Elysée Quarter, you can indulge yourself by dining at famous cafés and restaurants such as Ledoyen, La Maison de l’Aubrac, or Le Cinq. Round out your afternoon with some window shopping along the legendary Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. Famous sites such as La Madeleine, Place de la Concorde, and Les Champs Elysées are just a short walk away, and the nearest metro stop within just two blocks.
Your lovely pied-à-terre for the week features a spacious layout with two bedrooms, a modern kitchen and bathroom, and a well-lit, meticulously renovated living space, recently featured in Marie Claire Maison! With all the amenities of home— washer and dryer, flat screen TV, multi-zone Blu Ray player, an office, and wifi—you’ll be as comfortable a Parisian as you are a Californian. This incredible gem sleeps up to four people with ease and will make for the perfect home base from which to explore one of the world’s most celebrated cities.
6. TURKISH RAKI-MEZE DINNER FOR TEN
“Wish I were a fish in a raki bottle” – Turkish poet Orhan Veli
Travel across the globe with this dinner, sure to get your spirit and taste buds jumping. At the Clyde’s “meyhane,” you will converse, debate, share, and soliloquize over a seemingly endless—and delectable—spread of meze created by the Fruchts, while sipping on raki to your heart’s content.
Raki is a traditional Turkish drink, perfect for discourse and deepening friendships. Meze are like the Turkish tapas: hot, cold, sweet, savory, and always delicious! Your glasses will be kept filled with raki, and you and your friends will be served salads, cheeses, eggplant dishes, dolmas, boreks, and of course fish, to the sounds of Turkish classical music with Turkish-inspired decor. A belly dancer will enthrall you with hip gyrations and undulations to make your head spin. Raise your glass to health and happiness and join in the fun!

14. PRINCIPAL FOR A DAY
A VIP experience like no other: your child as Principal for the Day! Your son or daughter will be the star of the school as they accompany Thierry Durandard on his daily routine and see what it’s like to be in charge. Their day will start off with traffic patrol and greeting students upon arrival at the front gate.
Next, your child will visit classrooms to announce an official decision that he or she has made as Principal, and then it’s off to a special meeting with the Curriculum Coordinators. Your lucky child will also get to draft a special article for publication in the Gazette (with his or her photo of course!) and send an email to the teachers, from Thierry’s desk.
The highlight of the day just may be what comes next: your child will have the distinct and enviable honor of pulling the fire alarm! He or she will assist Thierry in conducting a real fire drill. Your little administrator will have a day to remember for a lifetime!
If your child is in Middle School, Stacy Chandler will turn over the reins with an equally fun day!
15. SHANGHAI SHINDIG
Celebrate the Year of Goat with an authentic eight-course Shanghainese dinner, prepared by Ellen Wang and hosted by Robin and Paul Kirby. This transcendent evening begins on the patio of the Kirby’s Mediterranean style home in Crocker Highlands, and as the hors-d’oeuvres, cocktails and ambiance transport you to a faraway land, you will wonder how you arrived without a passport.
You will then head inside for a feast that includes roasted whole fish and dumplings for prosperity, string beans for longevity, braised pork belly for luck, and other soul-nourishing delicacies. Complimenting the distinctive cuisine will be Old World wines, carefully selected to accompany the spices and exotic flavors of your Shanghai banquet.
Ellen’s passion for Asian cuisine and the Kirby’s experience in hospitality and wine unite to deliver a noteworthy—or “goatworthy”—Shanghai Shindig!
16. SERENITY IN SONOMA
Let Edward Lee and Rhonda Righter’s secluded four-bedroom, three-bath home in the hills above Sonoma sweep you away from the hustle and bustle of town into a sea of tranquility. Relax by the pool or in the spa and catch up on your lounging while sitting on the deck among the oak trees.
You will find ample pursuits outside of the pool and deck chairs, too, because Sonoma offers something for everyone, from wine lovers to nature enthusiasts. Try the bike tours, hiking trails, five star restaurants, a wine trolley, or even a safari at the 400-acre wildlife sanctuary, Safari West!
Whether you delight in active recreation or rest and relaxation, with two queen beds, two twin beds, and one twin/double bunk bed, you will have plenty of reasons to invite your family or friends along.
17. MOVEABLE MUSICAL FEAST
Your enchanted evening will begin in the home of Karoline & Jeff Robbins in the beautiful Berkeley Hills. As you appreciate magnificent views of the sun setting over the Golden Gate Bridge, enjoy a charcuterie menu planned by French Laundry’s own Maxwell Robbins, and treat your auditory senses to a guitar performance by Adam Johnson. Next, stroll down the street a short distance, where you will be rewarded with a delicious salad course in the courtyard of visual artist Miriam Dym, while Mirza Kopelman lays down the beats on his congo drum.
As the night deepens, head down a short set of stairs and arrive in the wooded setting of San Luis Court Park. Here, you will sit down for the main course of your dinner, perfectly paired with wines chosen by sommelier Florence Joliff. For dessert, you need only follow the neighboring leaf-strewn path to Tom & Renée Clyde’s house, where you will take in the glittering views of San Francisco, while the hostess, accompanied by Barbara Bedrossian on the piano, performs art songs for your entertainment.
At this point, ladies and gentlemen, the party is just getting started! To top off your night, you will migrate as a group one last time to the top of the park, to the home of Amy & Yann Risz, for after-dinner drinks and dancing…to rockin’ tunes by the EB parent band, Crisis. Delicious food, perfect wines, five unique locations, and most of all, the company of friends: this will be an evening you will not want to miss, and will remember for a long time to come!
